QuoteWerks has many useful features, but one often overlooked feature is the ability to reduce the inventory amount once a quote is converted to an order.  When a product is used in a quote and then converted to an order, QuoteWerks will ask you if you would like to allocate inventory for this order.  This option will only work if you have allocated the availability of the item in the product database, but it is a very helpful feature for many businesses.

Another great feature of QuoteWerks is the ability to keep the sales and accounting separate.  There are many security issues with allowing all the sales reps to have access to the accounting software.  Also, using QuoteWerks to complement QuickBooks allows businesses to keep QuickBooks clutter free of quotes and part numbers that never became orders.

Web applications are becoming more popular as companies grow beyond geographical boundaries.  However, this added growth also comes with added concerns about managing company information and security.  Web applications allow users to access company information as long as there is an internet connection.  This has a few major problems and lacks some major features.

First, once information is passed onto these servers the information is now visible by a third party.  Although the third party may not be interested in the information, they have access to it whenever they feel it is necessary.  Additionally, companies now have to pay an annual or monthly fee to access their own information that they created and uploaded to the web servers.  This is neither cost efficient or practical as it is primarily a convenience fee.  Businesses also must have contingency plans for when servers go down (planned or unplanned) for “maintenance”.  Furthermore, if the third party hosting this information shuts down operations unexpectedly, companies may not be able to access their information for a certain amount of time.  Finally, once information is passed onto these servers the question of who owns the information arises.  It was created by Company A but is stored on Company B’s servers.  Who owns it?
